RECOUP ACCREDITATION EXAMINATION 2009

 

Objectives:

This examination aims to evaluate and ascertain knowledge and skill levels of the therapist necessary for providing International quality treatment to RECOUP’s patients and identify specific training needs. This will also help in developing incentive structure based on the skill sets.

 

Syllabus:
1. Introduction to WRMSD, Clinical Features, History Taking, Physical Examination, Special Tests,

     Diagnosis and Assessment Forms 
2. SHARAN’s Protocol and Clinical Reasoning, Common MSD’s: TOS, MPS, Adhesive Capsulitis,

    Supraspinatus Tendinitis, Shoulder Instability, Lat Epicondylitis, Wrist tendinitis, PIVD, PFPS, Heel

    Pain, FMS, CRPS, etc.
3. Treatment Techniques: Soft Tissue Techniques (TrP Therapy, Myofascial Release, MET, PRT, INIT,

    PNF, CST), Articular Techniques, Nerve Mobilisation, Taping.
4. Introduction to SEMLARASS, Assessment, Post-operative Rehabilitation and Prevention of

    Complications.
5. Principles of Ergonomics, Workstation Evaluation and Balanced Computing, E-Fitness Training in

    IT Companies                                                                                              
6. Home exercise prescription, stretching and strengthening exercises and aerobic conditioning

 

Format:

I) THEORY: TOTAL: 50 Marks

Part 1: 50 Multiple Choice questions carrying ½ marks each, Total: 25 marks

Part 2: 25 Questions based on pictures and videos carrying 1 mark each, Total: 25 marks

We will be providing 10 laptops/desktops and the questions will be uploaded on these laptops/desktops and each person should complete the theory examination within 1 hour.

II) PRACTICAL: TOTAL 50 MARKS


There will be 4 different tables:
1. Articular techniques (Biju Nirmal Jacob)
2. Trigger point therapy and MFR (Bieju K Balan)
3. MET, PRT, PNF, CST and INIT (Jerrish A Jose)
4. Neurodynamics, Taping, Exercises, Yoga and Fitness (Ajeesh PS)
Each candidate will spend 15 minutes per table and be expected to demonstrate 7 practical manoeuvres, by a draw of chits.

 

Scoring:
The correct answer carries 2 marks each. If you don’t attempt the question, you get -2 marks and if you attempt and get wrong, you get -4 marks.

 

Final Result:
The final result will be calculated on percentile obtained.

Percentile obtained = No. of students out performed/ Total no. of students X 100

  1. A 25 year old male runner complains of pain in the left groin and medial aspect of thigh, because of which he cannot run for the past 2 weeks.
  2. A 30 year old female who complains of bilateral anterior knee pain for the past 6 months, cracking sound on the front of the knee, made worse on climbing stairs and standing up from a sitting position.
  3. A 10 year old male who complains of generalised pain and fatigue, especially in knees, legs and heels. The pain has increased after he started jogging 1 month ago. He also has multiple clicky joints. 
  4. A 45 year old overweight female with bilateral heel pain for the past 3 months, especially when she starts walking in the morning. She also has a burning and tingling sensation around the ankles and feet.

  1. A 34 year old male IT Professional gets low back pain and stiffness only when he sits for longer than 20 minutes. He has had 5 severe episodes of pain lasting 2-3 days over the past 1 year and is unable to move when the pain is severe.
  2. A 38 year old female receptionist underwent left L4L5 fenestration-discectomy 6 months ago for a low back pain radiating to left thigh that had been troubling her for over 3 years. However, immediately after the operation her pain increased dramatically and she now has constant pain, numbness and burning sensation over upper, mid and lower back and both lower limbs. She has not been able to return to work and barely gets a few minutes of sleep daily.
  3. A 20 year old male student developed acute low back pain 2 weeks ago while lifting weight in the gymnasium, shooting down the right leg, associated with tingling. The pain appears only when he stands, walks or sits for long.
  4. A 50 year old male diabetic, complains of low back pain and stiffness of 2 month duration, radiating down both lower limbs. The pain is present even on lying down but increases on walking up a slope.

  2. A 60 year old hypothyroid female with pain, numbness, pins and needles, and weakness of the both hands for last 1 year, especially at night.
  3. A 40 year old male guitarist with pain inner aspects of right elbow, and numbness and tingling inner aspect of right forearm and medial 2 digits, and clumsiness of hand for the past 3 months.
  4. A 26 year old housewife, nursing a 2 month old child, with complaints of pain, burning sensation, mottled discolouration and swelling of wrists, made worse when lifting her baby or washing clothes, for the past 4 months.

  3. An 18 year old female student complains of neck pain, right shoulder pain, jaw pain on chewing, disturbed sleep and fatigue for the last 6 years. She had dislocated her right shoulder with minimal trauma on 7-8 occasions in the past 10 years.
  4. A 45 year old manager, diabetic, with pain and stiffness right shoulder only while playing badminton for the past 3 weeks.
