Assessment Dr. Sharan evaluates all patients before proposing an individualised treatment plan. The assessment includes a comprehensive musculoskeletal/myofascial examination with a focus on range of motion, trigger points, biomechanical problems, and evidence of nerve or blood vessel entrapment, plus any other pertinent tests according to the presenting symptoms. Further assessments may include a workstation evaluation with a focus on biomechanical and ergonomic issues, blood tests, nerve conduction studies, x-rays, and MRI Scans. Usually, a team of 3-5 professionals, is selected for the treatment by Dr. Sharan. There is a designated therapy coordinator. DURATION OF TREATMENT An average stay in Bangalore for 12 weeks is recommended for overseas clients with chronic pain, based on our previous experience. We use the DEEPAK SHARAN RSI Severity Score to judge the likely duration of recovery after the initial assessment. FOLLOW UP Dr. Sharan reviews a patient at least once a week (and more often if required) and takes all clinical management decisions himself. COST OF TREATMENT The cost varies from Rs. 200 to Rs. 350 per session of 30 minutes. The monthly residential treatment cost for overseas/outstation clients enrolling for the intensive rehabilitation approach, with 4-5 sessions by the senior most therapists, is approximately Rs. 1,15,000 (USD $2500, GBP 1600) per month. Visiting patients spend most of the day at RECOUP undergoing various therapies or reading about RSI at our library/resource center. Treatment is available on all days (including Sundays and Public Holidays). The cost includes consultation and treatment with the following professionals: Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation Specialist, Ergonomist, Yoga Teacher and Physiotherapist/Myotherapist/Occupational Therapist (as required), rental for gymnasium, EMG Biofeedback, Ergonomics/Postural training on a model workstation, and a medical report. The costs of investigations/tests and food is not included in the package. Alexander and Feldenkrais lessons (when available) and Consultations with other Specialists are also charged separately. We accept payment by credit card (VISA and Mastercard). The cost of Alexander and Feldenkrais lessons is Rs. 900 per lesson or Rs. 12,000 for 15 lessons. The approximate costs of blood investigations is Rs. 1000 to Rs. 2000, Nerve Conduction studies Rs. 1500, Bone Density Tests Rs. 3500 and MRI Scans Rs. 7000 per region. Not all the investigations will be required for every patient. Pick up and drop to the Bangalore International Airport can be organised. The taxi fares in Bangalore are approximately Rs. 15 per km. Food costs approximately Rs. 500 to Rs. 1500 per day. The hospital has a cafetaria, cooking is permitted in the guest house, several restaurants are located nearby, and one of Bangalore's finest Gourmet Restaurants called Grass Hopper is just a couple of kilometres away. Only in-patient treatment at RECOUP Hospital or Guest House is available for overseas and outstation patients who wish to undergo the intensive rehabilitation programme. ) for booking and further assistance. Overseas clients should ideally book the appointment about 3 months in advance. This treatment regime, if taken in Australia, USA or Europe, assuming all the facilities can be put together, will cost over USD $ 50,000 per month at a conservative estimate (excluding accommodation). There is no difference in the treatment or accommodation charges for Indian and Overseas patients. 10 REASONS WHY RSI PATIENTS SHOULD CONSIDER A VISIT TO RECOUP Exclusive: The SHARAN’S Protocol for RSI Management and other clinical protocols for specific MSDs, developed at RECOUP, are not available elsewhere. Physician directed treatment: the treatment at RECOUP is led by a celebrated Orthopaedic, Rehabilitation and Ergonomics Medical Expert described by the Wall Street Journal as a “cult figure in the world of RSI” and not by physiotherapists or alternative medicine practitioners. Intensive: the duration of treatment can be often shortened because of the intensive treatment (even up to 5-6 sessions per day) Unmatched and consistent track record: RECOUP has consistently delivered a success rate in excess of 95% for over 7 years for over 70,000 RSI patients from 30 countries. No other Medical Centre or treatment method for RSI has been able to match RECOUP’s astonishing success rate till date. Lasting recovery: Most of our patients treated as far back as 2002 are still symptom free 8 years down the line. Experience of medical team: RECOUP’s team of over 80 medical experts treats over 400 patients a day. In contrast, most other internationally known RSI Centres treat 5-10 patients a day. Comprehensive, holistic and multidisciplinary: every single treatment modality (medicine, physical therapy, mind body approaches, alternative medicine) that has ever shown to be successful for RSI is available under a single roof and delivered by experts working together in a multi-disciplinary team. Cost effective and convenient: RECOUP charges only $ 4-8 USD per session (as opposed to $ 200-300 USD per session in the USA). The in-patient treatment, provided in a relaxing atmosphere, away from the city rush, is convenient and less strenuous. Internationally Recognised: Dr. Sharan is the advisor to the Government of India on RSI. RECOUP provides RSI/Ergonomics consultancy to almost every major IT/ITES company in India. The Government of UK (Health and Safety Executive and Department of Health) has proposed a research study in 2010 to document RECOUP’s extraordinary success rate as compared to the poor outcomes routinely obtained by UK’s NHS and private clinics. Dr. Sharan was invited to chair the scientific session on RSI at the triennial World Ergonomics Congress at Beijing in August 2009 and represented India at the International Ergonomics Council in 2009. Evidence based: Over 20 major clinical research studies on RSI are currently under progress at RECOUP. Earlier studies (including Randomised Controlled Trials) have unequivocally established the effectiveness of RECOUP’s proprietary treatment approaches and led to recognition of new RSI conditions, risk factors and treatment techniques. ABOUT RECOUP’S THERAPISTS The core group of therapists have been with RECOUP since its inception in 2002. Thirteen therapists have been working at RECOUP for durations ranging between 2 years and 8 years. An opportunity to work at RECOUP is now one of the prime career aspirations of freshly graduating therapists in India. There is currently a waiting list of over 100 therapists waiting for an opportunity to work at RECOUP. RECOUP conducts an average of 3 International Conferences and Courses in Ergonomics and Musculoskeletal Disorders per year and organises personalised training for its staff. In the year 2010, as many as 25 conferences and workshops are scheduled at RECOUP. RECOUP’s staff have received exclusive hands-on training from renowned experts like Prof. Daniela Colombini, Dr. Natale Battevi, Ms. Lucia Pigini (Ergonomists from Milano, Italy; inventors of OCRA and MAPO methods of Ergonomics Assessment), Prof. Arun Garg and Jay Kapellusch (Ergonomists from Wisconsin, USA; inventor of Strain Index and NIOSH Lifting Equation), and Ms. Suparna Damany (RSI Physiotherapist and Author from Allentown, USA) among others. The 5 senior-most therapists at RECOUP have a collective experience of treating over 30,000 RSI patients.
Our philosophy is that RSI is primarily a structural problem that CAN be completely treated, even in advanced stages. However, successful treatment of RSI requires that individuals take responsibility for making changes in their approach to work and other activities, and comply with treatment. LINKS 2.
